Hi,

Can someone give me a review on Herries Preparatory school,Maidenhead.
Is Herries better than St Pirans or other private schools.

Thanks,
Malini

What are you looking for in a school? Herries and St pirans very different.

Claire’s court and Highfield are other options (depending on if you’ve got girls or boys).

I have got a daughter.I'm looking for school where they give individual attention and help in getting the kids prepare for 11+ exam.Basically what I look most is a strong base during primary school years.
Could you please tell me how different all these schools are ,if you have any information on the same.

All of them you will get individual attention.

No school is allowed to tutor for the 11+ (grammar).

Highfield do offer after school classes in Year 5 in VR for 11+ prep.

Herries again don’t tutor for 11+, but they teach content and children can take exam at school.

Friends with kids at Highfield and herries also have tutors.

When I went round St pirans they said we would have to get a tutor if we wanted to do 11+.

Claire’s Court don’t tutor for 11+ again you need tutor.

Do look at which 11+ school you are thinking of going to. Not much of Maidenhead is in catchment for the Bucks schools. Last year the catchment area for Borlase didn’t extend as far as Maidenhead.

Thanks a lot for the reply.
You have mentioned previously that each school is different. Other than 11+ aspect, how different these schools and is it possible to tell me which one you find is best?

There’s no way of giving you the answer you want. ‘Better’ depends on what you value, and the temperament of your child.

Herries is tiny. That makes it a no from me, as too limited social opportunities and few on-site facilities. You might love the fact it’s very small.

How old is your child? If she’s under 7/8 I’m not sure you can begin to judge her suitability for grammar. I know someone who took her child out of state and sent them to Herries in yr2 or yr3 specifically to get them through the 11+ as she felt they taught to the test. The child failed it, in spite of additional tutoring. Plenty of kids at the previous state school passed. It’s not necessarily down to the school, more the child.

People speak highly of St Pirans and Highfield. Less so for Claire’s Court for primary girls.

You just have to visit them and form your own views.

I know DDs from the Maidenhead area who went to Godstowe in High Wycombe.

There is a bus to Lambrook from Bray. I'd go for that over any of the Maidenhead preps.
