Home School For Half A Term?

Hi All!
I’m just wondering if anyone knows a little on policies regarding home schooling? I currently live 4 miles away from DS’ school. We applied in year to transfer him to the nearest school, which is 0.2 miles from our front door but they’re at full capacity. However, he has been offered a place from September as he enters year 3. From June /July time, were no longer going to be able to drive to school as DH starts a new job soo er than expected & this position is 30miles away, therefore he needs the car. I don’t want to lose our place for September and wondered how it works applying to homeschool on a temp basis? Do you usually forfeit any granted spaces? Thanks

Not in my experience. You should check with your local council though. If you explain the reason for the gap between school attendance and what you plan to do at home during the interim it should be fine.

Do you have it formally in writing that he has a place in September?

If you want to home school, you simply write a letter to his current school stating you wish for him to be removed from their roll.

I can't see why it would be a problem but someone with more experience may have a better answer!

Thank you so much. I didn’t know if taking him out of his current setting meant forfeiting all LA provided education. I think you’re right, the best thing to do is to just contact them. I do have his invitation to a place in September in writing. Thank yous ! :)
