ICS School Appeal

Hi there,

I'm looking for advice. We have put in an appeal for our daughter who didn't get a place at our local primary school. She has an older sibling at the school.
The thing is we are on the border between 2 villages and so are out of catchment for the school although we are only just out of catchment 0.7 miles away and walking distance.
We are closer to the village where our eldest goes as there are open fields between us and the other village. Our daughter is quite shy and has made strong friendships we are very much a part of the community where the school is. She is also a bit delayed speech wise and we feel it will be unsettling for her to be at another school.
The school she has been offered will also be difficult logistically. We've been really unlucky as it's oversubscribed this year.
We don't stand a chance do we?

It is unlikely to succeed but no harm in trying. Make sure you visit the other school and prepare her for it and make sure you're on the waiting list.

Thank you. I have visited the other school and luckily it's nice. I am preparing for the fact we will probably lose. I've explained to daughter that she will probably be going to this other school but not talking about it too much just yet.

The answer is that if there has been a mistake made which for you would be around what is the admission position with siblings in the school or the wrong distance has been measured, then you might well win at appeal. However if there has been no mistake then you have a bigger chance of success from the waiting list than winning an ICS appeal.
But unless you appeal you will never be sure a mistake was not made, so I would appeal.
