Pretty sure everything is replaced annually by most people at our school.

mogloveseggs · 07/05/2019 16:48

Nah if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Kaddm · 07/05/2019 16:48

If a uniform bookbag is required, you should get that. Otherwise use what you have.

It’s a long time since mine were this age but I thought kids in reception got free lunches now so you might not need lunchbag at all.

PickAChew · 07/05/2019 16:49

If there is nothing wrong with them, replacing them is just wasteful.

I also replace uniform when it needs replacing, rather than just in September.

FannyFeatures · 07/05/2019 16:56

Nothing wrong with that.

I used to get a whole new uniform and kit every year and thought this was the norm until I had my own kids. My Mum and Dad just liked to throw money away apparently...

My kids use everything until they wear out. They only things I buy new for starting are polo shirts because they tend to be worn out by the end of the year anyway!

caughtinanet · 07/05/2019 16:59

Eh? Does your school have a rule that you have to buy new things every year?

That's ridiculous, you buy when you need to not based on the time of year surely. I've never heard of that and I've had many child years of primary school.

We bought DD2 a new book bag for Yr1 as she had holes in her Reception class ones from dragging it on the floor. Uniform gets replaced as it's outgrown. They don't need lunch bags except for school trips.

Replacing stuff for the sake of it is barmy in my mind...

Girliefriendlikescake · 07/05/2019 17:07

Dd had one book bag and two pack lunch bags for her entire time at primary school.

Unless something is broken why would you replace it??

BarbarAnna · 07/05/2019 17:09

OPs child is starting school in September so presumably does not have a book bag with the school logo on yet?

wonkylegs · 07/05/2019 17:19

DS had the same book bag up til last Christmas he's in yr 6
He got a new bag for Christmas and he's chosen one he can use for secondary
I replace or repair things when they are broken or no longer fit, tbh I've always been like this but DS now says I'm fashionable rather than weird as I'm helping save the planet.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/05/2019 18:05

Book bags I found quickly got worn and stained with daily use, so I replaced in September. Plastic lunch boxes we rarely used as they have school lunches so they lasted ages.
