Did I mess up my Primary Application?

So can I change my preferences after being given the first preference?

Since the application the situation has changed regarding the first school preference to the point I would rather now have taken the second choice if it was available.

Can I alter my preferences and then go on a waiting list as the second choice school has always been over subscribed.

You can go on the waiting list but you need to accept the one offered and go on waiting list in the mean time. Whether you ever make it to the top of the list is another matter if it is very over subscribed...

Accept the place you have been offered so you know your child has a place at a school for September.

Then ask to go on the waiting list for your now preferred school.

The waiting list is run according to normal admission rules, so if there are siblings or children living closer they may well be further up the list than you.

If the school has had to accept children over pan because they are twins , service children , or for any other reason then they will only take childrenfrom the waiting list when the numbers drop below 30.

I was in exactly the same boat this time last year. Did as viques (above) suggests and got the one I wanted in the end.
