Spelling help - year 4

It was flagged at the latest parents evening that DS really needs to work on his spelling.

Not been flagged before - they don't have spelling tests this year but last year they did and he always picked them up pretty quickly. Clearly not all have stuck however!

Some of the mistakes are silly ones - writing karry rather than carry for example - and then spelling much trickier words correctly. He definitely needs to slow down, his focus seems to be on quantity rather than quality when it comes to writing, but I've also noticed since doing some work with him in the hols that is that he doesn't always recognise the various phonic sounds in the words. So centary rather than century.

Any tips on any good spelling workbooks, websites etc that cover spelling by looking at the phonics that aren't too young for him? We had some phonics cards when he was in Year 1 but these are too young in content now. I looked at some year 4 work books but they are very rules focussed, which he seems fine on picking up. It's more the sounds of words that I need work on with him.

I found Word Wasp very good for drilling down on the sounds and names or letters, plus the rules of spelling. It took ds2 from the sort of spelling that meant the primary Senco tested him for dyslexia to a just above average speller at secondary.
