NHP... thoughts?

Hello,

Our 2 daughters could go to Notting Hill Prep. It seems like a very happy school. Big with the arts. How are the academics? Families/Parents? I know the current head is leaving and the new headmistress is coming from Glendower, which I heard is quite different from NHP. Obviously NHP is co-ed too.

What is it like living in Notting Hill or near there?

Thank you in advance. Smile

I don’t think there are many NHP parents on here!

From our experience it’s a fantastic school. Very nurturing and overall mostly excellent teachers. Online learning provision has been very good.

The new head Sarah Knollys (who was at Glendower) has been excellent and in my opinion improved the academic focus, even though it is a mixed ability school (entrance by ballot, or occasional places not by interview at Reception). The leavers at 11 /13 are to a wide range of great schools, including a few pupils into the top academic schools each year. However, you may feel they might not ‘push’ your DC enough compared to some other prep / junior schools based on what I see from the other local schools (Wetherby / Pembridge for example). If you are considering leaving at 7+, then they will not do any preparation for those exams as they expect children to stay to 11 or 13.

Most parents are relatively local, and whilst you have a few very wealthy families and ‘celebrities’, they are definitely the type where being understated is the norm. Most people walk their children, no chauffeurs etc. I think it’s a bit more relaxed than the other local prep schools.

I hope that helps.
