Year 3 SATs scores

DS got 3s across the board.

I have no idea what that means, although looking at some of the charts accompanying the report, it looks like he is in the top 40% of the class for each subject?

Is it possible to get higher than 3 at Year2? I thought when we had parents evening his teacher said she was testing him for level 4 in a couple of things, but I may have got that wrong?

Is there an explanation/ website anywhere?

Is he year 3? If so level 3 means he is doing very well, but not the top few percent as a few do score level 4s in year 3. On the other hand if he is year 2 then level 3 is the top few percent and decidedly above the national average. Either way he is doing well basically!

He's just finishing Year 2, so that's excellent! Wow.

In year 2, the expected outcome is 2B across the board. The highest is level 3 - not split into a/b/c.
In year 3, we would expect 3c across the board, though some children would get 2a still and others might get 4c.
