Anyone recommend Kumon?

Dd yr 5 is below expected standard for maths. I've tried a private tutor once a week but it's not really helping. She needs repetition of the basics but trying to get her to do extra work at home is a struggle. Doesn't help that dd1 yr 6 is a high flyer so doesn't need the same pressure to do extra. I'm wondering about Kumon. Her teacher thinks it might help. Would appreciate any advice! TIA

Kumon means your DD doing Maths homework every single day, you marking it straight away and then her correcting her mistakes immediately.

It has helped my daughter enormously but we have a daily battle over doing the worksheets every single day.

There's not much teaching involved, it is very much repeat and practice ad nauseam until it's ingrained. Going to the Kumon 'class' is only really to check progress and get new sheets.

I'm still wavering on whether it's a worthwhile spend, but it has brought her basic maths skills up to a decent level and she's not struggling as much in school. It's just very expensive for the amount of work the Kumon person actually does.

I usually would not recommend kumon, but given your DD's situation, i think Kumon might be a soution to her problem. why not give it a try?

Thank you for your replies. Her teacher recommended it when I mentioned it. I think she'd benefit from the repetition but I do anticipate a daily battle! Hopefully it would just be for a short while.

What basics does she need help with and what has the teacher suggested? There are loads of maths websites out there with games that improve maths skills. Try doing those every day before spending money on Kumon. Sumdog, my maths, bubble pop maths on the iPhone etc.

You can also save your money and buy the Kumon workbooks all online from Amazon.
