Girls' school uniform

DD(7) has to wear summer dresses after Easter but is worried about showing her underwear (playground has a climbing frame and a rope-swing where they all seem to like hanging upside down). I don't really want to put her in tights because they will be uncomfortable on hot days / when running around. She normally wears trousers in winter but summer uniform shorts are for boys only apparently (at this point I don't want to make her wear them anyway just to make a point!). Is there anything she can wear under her dress which will cover underwear but won't show beneath the hemline of her dress?

I was thinking cycling shorts but searched online and they all look a bit too long in the leg...

Grateful for any recommendations!! Smile

My dd wears white cycling shorts under gingham dresses. Black ones under her grey skirts. Apparently all the "cool" girls do...Hmm

Oh and they're from Matalan

@passthecake - yep!! Same here.

Because it is the uniform, all her friends will, she doesn't want to stand out, I don't want her to be picked on, I don't want to use her to make a point about the uniform policy, but most of all because she wants to Hmm

Well, then she wants to as well as having to (though it shouldn't be the only option for girls, some of whom may be religious).
I'm not saying you shouldn't follow up some of these options but you should also be having a word with the school about only providing an option that makes some girls uncomfortable, and they could also have a word with the children about the fact that pants are a good cover up not something we need to necessarily hide!

I am with you op, my dd would be mortified if I sent her in shorts, she loves the gingham dresses and they are nice and cool for the summer. We got the white shorts from Asda last year for under her dresses but she didn’t want to wear them in the end.

When my dd was in reception ( now in year 3 ) we were told that they needed to wear their PE shorts under their uniform for a whole summer term as one of the student teachers was male. There was uproar!

4/5 year old little girls were not going to flash their knickers on purpose and it sent out a bad message I think. It lasted about 2 weeks as the weather was so warm and girls and parents complained.
