Have just received my sons first full year report and FSP Scores, does anyone know what the average should be, as the scores come with no explanation? (hmm)

Don't think there is an average as such, the scales go up to 9 , 9 being Year 1 level. If you have a look for recent Foundation Stage threads such as this one you'll find more info.

What does year 1 level mean? There is a big difference between a child at the start and end of year 1 or at least there should be!

Think it is equivalent of first term of Year 1 but the FSP scale stops there as you move into KS1 .

The requirements for 9 are very open ended so a child could be just there or way above but the teacher goes no further than saying 9 (providing all others 1 to 8 are met) when I saw DS's teacher in March she said he could do the things for a 9 in one area but would not be able to give it to him as there was a small thing at about number 4 or 5 like holding a pencil in a specific way which he wouldn't do. Daft thing is he got shown to do it the "correct" way did it a few times, they ticked the box that he had achieved it then he could go back to his own way of doing it.
