Were moving house and all the primary schools local to us are full in year 1. Weve also got a DC who is going into Reception in Sep. The only school we can find that has place for them both is 20 mins away. It's a lovely school but is it going to be harder to make friends in the area??

With school places being in short supply these days, getting offered a school for both children that's only 20 minutes away doesn't seem too bad, to be honest!

It's possible that others are also travelling similar distances to school. You could also look out for extra-curricular activities close to your new house so you widen the friendship options.

Do you mean 20 miles?

Seeline · 18/03/2019 09:40

Is that 20 mins walk or drive or public transport?

Thisorthatwhoknows · 18/03/2019 09:47

Sorry 20 mins drive. We walk to school at the moment but know that we are lucky!

20 min drive is fine. Get them into Ranbows/Brownies, Beavers/Cubs, etc near home to have local friends. They'll soon make school friends too.
