How many breaks do your Y3 children have?

At dd's school from Y3 onwards the children only have a lunch break. No mid morning break.
So the kids will do just over 3 hours in the morning without a proper break. Then just over 2 hours in the afternoon.

Just wondered how usual that is? I seem to remember having more than one break in a day throughout primary school...

Morning and lunch. 3 hours is a long time without a break. Are they allowed to go to the toilet during that time?

QuietlyQuaffing · 13/03/2019 16:32

They have morning break and an hour at lunch. How long is your overall school day?

Norestformrz · 13/03/2019 18:02

Morning, lunchtime and afternoon

Dd is in year 3 and the whole school has a morning break for 20 minutes 10.30-10.50 and lunch is 12-1.30 for infants and 12.15-1.30 for juniors.

I've just asked dd about your op and she said that it's kind of mean as after a couple of hours you need to have a run around! And a snack.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 13/03/2019 19:40

Ours have 20 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes outside at lunch (+30 minutes spent eating, so 1hr lunch overall). This is for the whole of KS2 (although Y5/6 morning break is 15 mins rather than 20). A couple of times a week Y3 will have a "brain break" for 5/10 minutes at around 2:30, just before assembly. Y4 have a break break very rarely, usually only if assembly is cancelled or the afternoon lesson ends up finishing early. I think we've had less than 10 this academic year in total.

No morning break is definitely not standard! I used to work at an infant school where Reception didn't have a morning break, because most of their morning was free-flow play including outside time anyway. They went for their lunch 15 minutes before the rest of the school, and so some of the quick eaters were out on the playground for almost an hour at lunch.

Hmmm....this info has come from dd so am wondering if she's got the wrong end of the stick....

I was expecting it to be more like GetTheGood's post which is sort of what dd has now (minus the 'brain break').

School day is 6 hours 20 mins long.

Ah, is DD still in KS1? If so it could be that they lose afternoon break in KS2, but that's got a bit garbled in translation.

dameofdilemma · 14/03/2019 16:34

Quietly - they already lost their afternoon break when they moved to year 2!
