11+ KCS interview

Hello,

DS has an 11+ interview at King's tomorrow. I've read the advice others have kindly offered already on other threads, but most is from a number of years ago.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced it more recently please, in case anything new or unusual comes up. Really just trying to avoid any curveballs.

Most grateful :)

He will be asked hobbies, favourite book, favourite subject, etc. They want to get to know him. He should show enthusiasm, nobody would be interested in someone who replies in monotones. Answer in full sentences, do not sit like a pudding. They want sparkle in boys. Have a question to ask Interviewer if asked. Be sure to know enough about school, as well as an honest reason why he would want to attend.
Good idea to know a bit on current affairs, in case he does not read regular children's news magazines, etc. They are looking for well rounded boys. If he's from private school, he needs to show even more knowledge, well-roundedness and articulation. Hope it helps. Good luck!

Hi there - definitely tell your DS to relax, they're very nice and are not looking to trip him up. He's done really well to get to interview stage!

They may give a little maths-based task to do while they finish writing up notes at the start but nothing terrifying. They may also ask them to read aloud from a passage on a sheet.

The questions will likely be around favourite subjects, sports and interests at the current school and why they like them. Why they would like to attend the school, what they are excited about in moving to a new school. At the end they then ask them if they have any questions.

My DS said they were REALLY nice and that it went by very fast. Best of luck!

Thank you so much OptimysticMom and WineGumption :)

KCS is DS' favourite out of all we've applied to, so he's eager to do well. From what you've said it seems like I've covered all the bases which is very comforting.

Thank you again, most grateful!

How did it go? My ds had an interview too but is currently declaring that he won’t go to an all boys school!

My DS also interviewed on Saturday. Does anyone know the number of boys being interviewed? It seemed to me like there were an awful lot of boys going through when you consider the number of places available...

Quadrophinia · 28/01/2019 11:34

I don’t know how many? Was everyone asked to read aloud and discuss the text? I’m assuming that ds literacy exam was far weaker than his maths and perhaps that’s why he was asked to do that?

Latymer to go and then we’re done!

teaistheanswer79 · 28/01/2019 11:41

Yes, my DS was given a passage to read to himself and then he was asked questions around it. No maths questions, I don't think. Although the information I got was very vague!

Hello,

DS had his interview this afternoon. DS said the teacher that interviewed him was very friendly and funny. Was asked the typical questions... why KCS, the sports he does and extracurriculars, favourite subjects, thoughts on current school.
Was given two pictures to discuss plus asked to read an extract and give thoughts on it.
Apparently approx. 400 sat for 11+ and interviewing a half to a third for the 60 places available.

One more tomorrow and we're done. Yay!

Good luck to you !
