Reading vs writing expectations for reception child

My son can read many high-frequency words and sight words. Hes in reception. He can read “the” for example but when i ask him to write it he writes it wrong sometimes (he writes “da”
Instead). Is it normal? He also writes 5 , 3 and s facing the other side sometimes. Is this normal for a reception child?

Both are very normal and age appropriate and will disappear as they grow. AT this stage they are mostly expected to write phonetically correct rather than have the right spelling. That said, personally I would encourage the correct spelling of the high frequency words, but I wouldn't worry too much, they get it eventually.
