Primary schools Lancaster

We may be moving to Lancaster in summer 2019 and need to do reception application for youngest which is complicated by needing Y2 place for eldest and cannot sort that until we have an address.

Looking at South side of the city - Ofsted reports and various "scores" all look quite similar. Not sure if we'd get a CoE school place as don't attend school so that may be a wasted application (though they currently have a place for older boy but cannot hold it for us).

Any recommendations or places to avoid? Thanks!

Hello , we’re in Lancaster and my ds in reception at Christ Church primary which I’m very impressed with so far. We don’t attend church but do live close by to it. It’s close to some of the new house builds.

We found school choice difficult as a range of good options.

Have friends with kids at bowerham and moorside. Moorside usually has space as largest intake. I really liked moorside when I visited.

Other schools I’ve heard are good in south Lancaster are Dallas road and St. Paul’s and Ellel.

We are lucky with schools in this area in my opinion. I hope you get places sorted for both ASAP, and have an easy transition!

Thanks so much beltanlove (and sorry for my late reply, I hadn't noticed your post until now)

Glad to hear they are all generally good, it certainly looked that way looking at the reports.

After much deliberation I think we are going to put Moorside, Bowerham and Dallas Rd on account of them being the biggest and therefore a higher chance of them having a space for older son too (two of them have a space now but it may be some time until we move so it may be gone). The impracticalities of having them not being in same school is pretty much overruling any other reason for school choice now!!
