class sizes in DD school years P1-P3 would have 5 classes each, they will need to find another 6 classrooms, and most councils seem to be half way through programs for building new schools which I assume may now be to small, great forward planning

But the policy is more to do with overall falling school rolls (so numbers overall are dropping, but lets not sack the teachers). It is a long term initiative, nothign to do with what is best for pupils, more to reassure unions etc that teachers will continue to be employed even if class nubmers small. I don't think that it is going to mean more classrooms being built somehow. It is more to stop schools form lcosing.

I am curious, apparantly it is going to cost £25 million. Who pays - does the Scottish parliament raise extra taxes or do we English pay for their smaller class sizes whilst we suufer class sizes of 30 and more ...

They get a block sum from the UK government but can spend it how they want.

£9m is to spend recruiting 550 new teachers so it is not really to do with falling rolls

I think that its expected that we English pay for it, along with their free health care for the elderly and free university tuition fees. How are the scots affording it. I don't think the scots pay more income tax than the rest of us

Prehaps the amount of money going to scotland needs to reduced. In our town they are shutting down/ merging 8 primary schools and we have lost our local maternity unit.

I think I will be moving to Scotland along with my ageing MIL
