Iceland Advert

So my 7 year old has come home from school upset that she has seen the Iceland advert as they're learning about the rainforest. Whilst I appreciate that the advert was banned for its political background as opposed to its content, should they have not asked before showing them it? They wouldn't have shown a banned film just because it's content is relevant to current learning surely?

Tbh since it is there Earth too I would rather not hide it from the children, but that’s me. When I was at school we did the yanomamo musical and that left a long impact on me.

Btw it’s being shown on YouTube still.

Ok to answer your quest directly no I don’t think you should have been consulted on this. And you are spectacularly over egging the banned aspect. It hasn’t even banned from public viewing that is in itself obvious as it is being shown everywhere. It has been banned for use as a supermarket advert. Since it was Iceland themselves that put it out on social media with no reprisals that would suggest it wasn’t against any rules to do that so banned isn’t the correct word for this.
If you’d taken your day to the cinema during the summer you may well have encountered it there as that is where Greenpeace first ran it. What would you have done then?
Your ds has clearly misunderstood the ad saying he won’t eat meat so this is a great opportunity to have a discussion with him about this. My 8 year old has already started asking about things that he likes and their palm oil content or not off the back of this advert and it has been a great starting point for a discussion about the environment and what we are doing to the planet. My children often roll their eyes at me with my plastic reduction and attempts to but products without palm oil etc. This advert gave them a fantastic age appropriate view of what we are doing to the planet rather than rolling their eyes and telling me to go hug a tree (I have teenagers too Hmm)

I wonder if you would have been that upset if your son wasn't bothered.
