School have arranged a SleepOver...............

My DD1 is 5, her school have arranged a trip/sleep over to a themed children's village type thing. The kids will get to sleep in a characters themed house.
It is £30 per child to go. I'd drop her off at school as normal, and pick her up normal time the following day.
She is as chuffed as a little chuffed thing, but I don't really think it is a great idea.
She has stayed away from home before, but with a very good friend, so both her and her house (and her 2 DD's) are all very familiar.
I am really quite suprised the trip has been arranged for Reception Class!
I am going to have to let her doen somehow as I don't feel comfortable about it at all.

Or am I being a molly coddle???

I'm surprised ! Have never heard such a thing for reception - but surely she wants to go ? Are all her friends going ? Is it far away - or would you be able to collect her if it wasn't working out ?

My dd is 6.5 and has not yet done a sleepover - apart from 1 night at grannys !

beavers have overnight camps, kids can start there at 6. i was worried sick but my kids loved it. i did stay to a camp and that made me feel loads better, would you be able to offer help?

Seems very young and, having a DD the same age, I too would be unsure. They are still very young, and some will still have bed wetting incidents I am sure. (DD does if she drinks anything other than water after 3ish)

Would I let her go? In the end probably - having spoken to teacher re the drinking, and being assured abut organisation and if they would contact us in case of problems. But I'd worry about it all night.

Id be appalled if my kids school arranged a sleepover for my ds who is in reception - the cost too - way too much for a reception class trip

hmmmmm.....well it is about 20mins drive from home. I can't go with her as I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old who won't stay with daddy
I guess dh would be willing to be on standby to get her if she was sad.
She has a good routine at home...milk, book, teeth, wash, wee, bed. I just have visions of the one on one attention not being very good! What if they all want their mummies/daddies??

I can imagine they will have very little sleep, and probably lots of fun initially at least. Not sure about lights out time though! If you do let her go expect very little to get done for a day or two when she gets back.

I wouldn't have been happy about this for my two when they were so young.
But I would go along if they need parent helpers, so that my DCs could go.
Is this an option for you?

My DS2 (7) had one of these recently - they loved it. At 5 I would have had doubts really. Also ours was £60

5 way to young imo.

I think 5 is too young too - lots of childeren are not yet dry at that age, my dd was one and one of ds's best friends in YR at the moment. Not fair on them for a start!

For me I would worry about it all being 'too much too young'

What school trip are they going to organise for 7 year olds??????????

I'd probably let her go (as most of her friends would probably go) but go myself as a parent-helper or sit up all night worrying .

And I've spent nights away from my dd but not where she's away for the weekend .

We do a Rainbows sleepover for our unit (5-7yos) some just come for the evening and some sleepover (or wakeover!) but then thisis only 5 mins from home so slightly easier and noone will be out of place for going home.

This time will be my dd2s first sleepover and she still wets the bed but at least I will be there but otherwise I wouldn't send her.

The trouble with sleepovers is that the children don't sleep very much and so are bad-tempered for their parents the next day, in my experience!

I bet this was an idea by a teacher who hasn't got children.
