Have you identified a school? If so I would approach the school in the first instance, and they can tell you if they have any space, or if they have a waiting list what the policy on the waiting list would be. The waiting list ,esp for recption may be handled by the LEA rather than the school, but the school should be able to tell you that.

I would point out that most LEAs will not take into account childminding arrangements, so if you are competing for aplace on the grounds of proximity it will be your address that counts. And of ocurse you'll already know that there will be various occasiosn out of school hours where you may have to be at school (parents evenings, fairs, plays/shows, school trips etc), so factor that in too.

Not sure how you feel about schools etc, but you probably you will have to be looking at an undersubscribed school (and they are usually undersubscribed for a reason).

As you are looking to move schools after the admissions process its not necessarily the case that you will be left with all the cr@p schools. People move house & schools all the time for all sorts of reasons nowadays. You may well strike it lucky with a school that was wildly oversubscribed at admissions time now having spaces.
Good luck.

speak to local schools I know one near us is planning on running an after school club from sept. This info isnt being advertised yet but they told me in conversation so are letting people know.

Ask around and see what others do. Some childminders dont have spaces now but may in sept.
