Ideas for teachers presents for Christmas

Hello,

I'd like to have some ideas for presents to be given to my DD's teachers (Year R).

Do we have to give a card, a gift and chocolate? What's the budget? If you are a teacher yourself, which particular gift do you most enjoy.

You don't have to give anything!! Some children make cards, which is lovely, others give small gifts such as a nice notepad, a box of chocolates, bottle of wine, costa voucher to buy a coffee and cake...If you're going to buy something, just a few pounds is fine!

If you do want to give a gift (thank you!), then try to make it genuinely personal. Relate it to something they've said they like. Please do not buy a World's Best Teacher mug

I'm a teacher and love to receive cards. If your DD can write her own name or create a design on the front (maybe with your help) then you can write a message with your thanks / appreciation inside. That is what I most like to receive.

A gift is not expected and if you do want to give something make sure it's only small. A £5 voucher for Costa or Starbucks or any stationery (doesn't have to be as much as £5) or a paperback novel, a scented candle, or handcream are all good gifts for me. I don't drink much and barely ever at home so wine or booze I'd probably end up regifting. Some teachers have allergies which make beauty products difficult. Stationery is probably the easiest type of gift. But please don't feel you have to. A card is really lovely.

It all depends on how much afford in my eyes the teacher have made with your child.

In my sons school when he finished last year I hated his teacher so I got her nothing but loved the assistant so got beautiful flowers for £20

When my 3 year old when he left his private nursery which is the best nursery in the world !!! I really did go all out, may sound strange but bought ten orchids from m&s and a box of chocolates for all 11 members there ( was saving for that day) now come Christmas I will send a card and a box of chocolates for his previous key worker.

Generally Christmas and other celebrations u would spend anywhere between £10- 15 per teacher and a nice box of chocolates for the receptionist.

Everyone says that I give way too much but the problem is that I'm Russian and even thought I have spend most of my life in UK it's in my nature to be grateful and show that gratitude.

Most of my friends either get nothing at all or very nice flowers

A card made by the DC is perfect. Presents: where do you start and stop? We didn’t give individual presents. At prep school the parents each made a contribution to an end of year present. The state schools were not organised like this. So consider whether Christmas or end of year is present time or whether a card will suffice.

A card. That is all. Or maybe chocs from Poundland.

I'm a reception teacher and there are four members of staff in our class. I really hope none of the parents are worrying that they have to buy us a present or are spending a sizeable chunk of their Christmas budget on us. If you really want to buy something, a £1 box of Maltesers always goes down well! And a little card with a nice message is lovely.

Don’t buy a mug we get loads. Agree Malteses always welcome. Some lovely biscuits. A voucher for a bookshop, coffee shop etc if you know or can find out a small bottle of wine or miniature gin goes down well in our school.
However the best present is a card with a message of appreciation. It is hard work in Reception getting them settled in so a parent who writes a few lines to say thank you is wonderful.
I have had some beautiful hand made tree decorations from some of the Polish families and treasure them. I am now teaching the siblings 😃 perhaps an unusual tree decoration/ bauble.

Consumables are great because I don't have space for 30 best teacher mugs, however u do appreciate every gift I get. A packet of shortbread, bag of Christmas coffee or a small selection box (the cheap ones) would all be very, very much appreciated.

I know the teachers at my DCs' school appreciate a card and nice message. They won't want to get "best teacher mugs". Some like chocolate, some like wine all appreciate JL vouchers so I go for that. Often we'll club together and get vouchers from the whole class so they can get something substantial.

I bought these last year. They were about £2.50 each from eBay. I am a teacher myself and don’t expect anything at all.
Personally I prefer a card with a nice note. I always end up taking chocolates to the food bank as I get so many.

The best present for me (y4 teacher) would be a nice card, with my name written correctly, and capital letters for the first letters of the child's name. It's very rare to get this, unfortunately!
Failing this, wine is good ...
