2 but independent school

Kerberos · 16/10/2018 22:51

Depends where you live...

winterishereagain · 16/10/2018 22:52

The one at state school gets a week and the one at private gets 2.

TrashPanda · 16/10/2018 22:52

We have a week and a half, break up on a Wednesday and then back the Monday after next.

bushtailadventures · 16/10/2018 22:52

State school, just 1 week. Half terms always are just one week here, although they sometimes have an Inset day tacked on too.

EduCated · 16/10/2018 22:55

I know of one local state secondary which went back early in September (well, actually in August) and will have two weeks in October, but they are an anomaly comprised to the other local schools.

Where I live, the state schools typically get one week, and the private schools two..

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 17/10/2018 07:35

One at the moment but I think we go to some strange holiday and term arrangement after this academic year where some of the half terms go up to two weeks and we lose a bit of summer. I've not looked that far ahead yet though really.

sashh · 17/10/2018 08:03

Normally 1 week, some school (state) have gone to shorter summer breaks and longer half term to make the year more equal.

Back in my school days I was at an RC school, we got days off for 'holy days of obligation' so our half terms were much shorter, 2-3 days.

One memorable year with had half term Monday and Tuesday, back at school Wednesday then a HDO Thursday, back to school Friday.

Why the hell they didn't move the 2 days half term to next to the HDO was beyond me than and still is now.

But then lots of things were and still are.

PrivateParkin · 17/10/2018 08:05

sashh same here. Completely daft.

PattiStanger · 17/10/2018 08:07

It depends on the school, I know schools near me have 1,2 or 1 week and some days. There's no rules as far as I'm aware

Chrisinthemorning · 17/10/2018 08:09

2 but independent school.
It’s a trial - first year doing it. Before we have had a week and a day. They have added 4 days to the school year elsewhere.
Reason was it’s such a long term and children get tired and poorly.
DS is off poorly today though (break up Friday).

Undercoverbanana · 17/10/2018 08:10

Never heard of anyone getting more than a week plus the odd teacher training day.

Are you in the U.K. OP?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/10/2018 08:13

I’m in Nottinghamshire and we currently get one week, but from the year starting Sept 2019 we’ll move to 2 weeks in October then lose one in the summer. We had a consultation on it last year - I’d have preferred 2 weeks in May but I’m happy with the new plans.

SavoyCabbage · 17/10/2018 08:14

Some schools are moving towards a two week October half term and a shorter summer holiday. Our 'cluster' is doing it next year for the first time.

Schools can all set their own holidays now. Our cluster moved the Christmas holiday last year as the LEA had it as two part weeks, breaking up a few days before Christmas. They ended up breaking up at the end of the week instead and going back later which was nice as all the other schools had gone back.

Rebecca899 · 17/10/2018 08:27

Hi yes im in london and before i used to lived in nottingham it used to be 2 weeks and it still 2 weeks there .

Scotland - 1 week which we affectionately call 'the October week'

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 17/10/2018 11:08

Two weeks, I'm in Scotland. It's the tattie holidays up here.

pretendingtowork1 · 17/10/2018 11:11

Two, private school.

Rockbird · 17/10/2018 11:13

State school, 1 week with an inset day at the start. Roll on Friday!

PattiStanger · 17/10/2018 11:15

I'm surprised that when you had 2 weeks you didn't know that other places only had one? I have friends and family in different parts of the country and know that the October half term is the one where there's little consistency across areas.

DunesOfSand · 17/10/2018 11:21

Depends where you are.

We've got a sodding 16 week term, with 3 weekends with an extra day tagged on. Tis truly shit. British school, not in the UK. Praying the winter weather comes soon, and they are forced to shut the school for a few days.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 17/10/2018 11:25

A week and 2 days although we also have INSET days which will make it 2 weeks.

JollyAndBright · 17/10/2018 11:25

We get one here.

I have an extra question,
When is everyone on half term, next week or the week after?
