Choosing a Primary School

I'm interested in how you chose your child's first school. What did you look for first? How did you know your choice was the right one? What other things did you look for?

I got it wrong for my last child and ended up moving him... Interesting to know how everyone else decided. :)

I just like the way they communicated with me. They responded with personalised emails rather than obviously copy and pasted replies. The staff (including admin and ground staff) seemed happy and enthusiastic about being there. I liked the atmosphere of the school and it seemed to stress the aspects of education I found most important (pastoral, treating each child as an individual, social skills etc). The children seemed happy, it was a small school which would suit my children. I'm very happy with my choice.
