Yr6 SATs and secondary

I've just been told that year 6 SATs scores are taken into consideration when moving to secondary and then factored in even right through to predicting GCSE grades.

I've advised I am almost certain this information is incorrect. Please please somebody tell me I'm right on this!

Agree AllPizzas. I didn't do any extra coaching or tutoring with mine. They just did the usual primary school homework, did their best at the SATs and ended up in the sets and with the targets that were right for them

Last year we were told DD will fail her SATS!! and in true style she aced them :) (subtle middle finger to her teacher) i think their stating she would fail pre determined her standing at senior school as within 2 weeks of starting she have moved up 2 levels in all classes.

There are no pass or fail for sats I believe? It's either reach the expected standard(100 scaled score) or not, I think. So who ever says fail the sats is talking nonsense, I believe.

"I've just been told that year 6 SATs scores are taken into consideration when moving to secondary and then factored in even right through to predicting GCSE grades. " Many schools use SAT results to initially set pupils others will use internal tests soon after pupils start so there isn't a definitive answer, however the government uses SAT results to set pupil GCSE target grades.

Irvine, you’re right, but some people would refer to a score below 100 as failing (ie not meeting age related expectations).

Lusa, I know. But it's just cruel to call it a fail. There is not much difference in score 98 and 100. Calling it a fail is just pure negative, when you can have positive comment about it.
