Ewell - Danetree vs Ewell Grove

DD starts school next year. Originally, based on where we lived, she would have gone to EG and then to Danetree, which we knew when we moved into the area and were happy with.

However, now both schools are full primaries and we live pretty much between them (closer to EG) so there's a good chance she could get into either. As a result, we're now having to figure out which is best. I've been to an Ewell Grove open day and was very impressed with the general feeling in the school (even with all the building works etc) but...they don't seem to have as much in the way of extra curricular stuff or sports etc. The head said they're working on it, but it certainly doesn't seem to be something that's well established.

I need to go look at Danetree properly, but anyone local have any thoughts?

Hi!

(my two children are at Ewell Grove and we love it!)

Yes, extra-curricular activites are still a work in progress, but should become easier this year - they now have access to the all weather sports field at Old Schools Lane (Juniors using it for PE twice a week and football club at the moment) and once the building work has finished the main school site will be a lot more flexible.

They are a small school and we love the feel of it and the general ethos. Spaces at the After School Club is an ongoing problem (again not helped by the building work), but that's probably my only niggle!

I have friends who have elder siblings at Danetree and they are generally happy, very impressed with the new head. But I do know some people who don't like the school - definitely worth a visit to see for yourself.

EG's catchment has been small the last 2 years, so check your distance.

Hope that helps :)

Both schools are a bit marmite in that people love or hate them! Worth also checking out Epsom Primary (fab school) and St Clements (Catholic but take non Catholic students).
