Year 6 transfer

So my year 6 son is currently on a waiting list to transfer school, he has 2 siblings at the school and is currently second on the list. My question is how much movement is there in the final primary year?? A friend of mine commented that nobody moves their child in the final year as they'll be moving to secondary soon anyway, my son is extremely anxious and is now so upset to think he wont get to move (school we want to move to is an all through school so there would be no move again to secondary). Is my friend right or do children still move in year 6 and does my son stand a chance?!

I was told the same thing, we are relocating to the UK next year and my son will be Y06. Lots of schools told me there will be not much movement, but they never know for sure until just before school starts. So annoying. I am just hoping, it will all work out.

Children do move in Y6 but it will vary from school to school. Perhaps your friend is talking about the school you want.

Depends on the area. DC's junior school had high mobility and a few people left in year 6.

You're a person who wants to move your child in year 6, which somewhat disproves your friend's theory!!

People don't tend to move schools in the local area, but there can always be families that are moving too far to still come back to school.
My experience is that people tend to move away, but often the people at the top of the waiting list think it's not worth moving for one year and refuse the place-unless it's before October and a feeder school to a good secondary.

We had one year when a third of the class were new in Y6 and one child arrive the week of the SATs.
