Hi, my son is 9 and he doesn't like reading. He finds it very borring and wouldn't even read a book based on his favourite programmes. When I was 8 I wasn't into reading and my friend took me to the library and found a very funny book. I can't remember it's name but I remember being in fits of laughter. Ever since I love reading. On occasions it even got me into trouble when I couldn't stop reading even during my lessons at school hiding my book behind my desk and secretely reading it. Reading books grately helped me in life and I never found myself bored which my son sometimes feels like. I feel a good book would be what he needs. It could also improve his writing. Would anyone please recommend a very interesting book for my child, a book he can't resist.

Agree comics are excellent - esp Battles in Time!
Ds currently loves the Diamond Brothers series by Anthony Horowitz (The Falcon's Malteser; Public Enemy No 2; I know what you did last Wednesday)
No-one has mentioned Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series yet, this is another perennial favourite.
Fedda, if your ds loves minerals in particular he might enjoy Volcano Adventure by Willard Price. It's an old-fashioned adventure yarn with a lot about geology and rock formation in.

Had exactly this issue with my son who has just turned 9. His turning point was last summer holidays - I had packed some books by Sally Gardner (boy with lightning feet etc.). My dh picked one up and started rading it to himself. DS asked him to read it to him. DH refused and went off to do something else. DS picked it up in defiance, started reading and couldn't put it down! I also found "banning" certain books really effective e.g. Harry Potter
