Follwoing on from homework in Year 7 .......

Have your schools 'given up' giving homework to your Year 6's? Ours have and I can't help thinking that dd will be brain dead by Septebmer. Not to mention the fact that unless they have some kind of mental stimulation and order in school, they're gonna be a nightmare by the end of July! Thing is, I've always said no park after school unless its Friday, as its a school night, but since they are doing very little work at school now, I don't have any bargining power anymore! I am seriously thinking of setting some work for her or making her sit and read to me out loud at the least. No work for 3 months!! - ridiculous!

Why would she be brain dead by September? Isn't she interested in anything? Now is the time for her to discover what she likes. Why not let her go to the park? Personally I'd think it was great if there was no homework for 3 months. Or are you upset that your bargaining chip has been taken away
Like you say there's nothing to stop you setting her work if you really think she needs it.

MMLove - I know what you mean - it's just so hard to get them going again in September again. I try and very gently keep things going - holiday diary, trips to museums etc and doing the library reading scheme over summer etc. DS has entrance exams in Autumn term so will be having to do some work over the summer...ho hum.

She has plenty of interests and is very active juuule, but what she isn't so keen on, is school work! I just think that its going to be an awfully big shock going to senior school and suddenly be thrown back into work. We all know what its like after you've taken a 2 week holiday, its takes at least a week for us to get back in the swing of things!

Y7 tends to be a repeat of Y6 academically (well at our school anyway) so I don't think that side of it will be such a big shock. There will be lots of new things to get used to and they will be done in different ways to the primary way she is used to. I'm not sure anything apart from doing it will get her used to that. And she can't do that until September. Until then I let her do her own thing and recharge her batteries.

OK, I'll cut her some slack! {Mo considers herself told off!} I will expect some sympathy though, when I appear in the AIBU section about my ASBO kid!

Good on yer, mo

MaureenMLove · 01/07/2007 12:25

{Mo reflects on the nice sweet child she used to have and wishes the one that has been living here for the last week should &*%$ OFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!}
Sympathy now needed! It was your idea to cut her some slack, now get back here and tell me how to get the nice girl back!

Oh dear, what is she up to?
If it's any consolation, which it probably won't be, she would most likely have been the same if you had given her homework to do - maybe even worse.

MaureenMLove · 01/07/2007 13:59

She is having the biggest strop! I told her she couldn't go to the park. Its pouring with rain, she was out with her mates all day yesterday and we are going to the borough festival in an hour, where she is dancing. She is soooo skating on thin ice. She's even being gobby to dh and that never happens! Still, small consolation, she's going away with the school for a week, next week!
