Keywords

Hi

I was wondering how your child learns the keywords. DS is in Reception and gets 6 words sent home at a time as well as reading books.
A friends child, at a different school, just gets the books sent home and apparently only learns the words in context.

Thanks
Minni

ds gets 5 words to learn (gets a stamp on his book when he learns them)
plus a biff and chip book every two days
plus he had the 26 letter sounds to memorise
plus rapid recall maths
plus writing practice (look/cover/write)
plus a new thing i haven't quite worked out where you sound out the words letter by letter then say the whole word

They read at school twice a week and test them 3x a week (they get stamps/comments and stars if successfull)

Seems a bit much (imo) as they're so young

After reflection I must admit to
cat's , learning in context of the story seems like setting them up for failure (at least thats what i've gathered from it

.. ok Chip's aeroplane is lost

but if i've lost my keys will the dc still register the lost word ?

Much as it pains me my ds's rapidly expanding bookbag does sort of make sense
