DS is going into P2. He is tall but very narrow. HIs blazer from last year is 24" and looking rather neat on the arms and getting short although a good fit on his chest; we can get away with it for a little while but not lng. I have ordered the next size up which is 26" from the school logo shop but it is ridiculously wide, the shoulders and chest are huge and he looks like a scarecrow. There is no way we can transition between the two, he will need something before the larger one fits.

I thought I might take him into JL to try some on but looking on line they only have one navy blazer without a logo.

Any suggestions? Needs to be navy. School uses beau Brummell viscount blazer but we don't need to use a particular supplier.

In my experience it is completely normal that around 90% of children in a primary school at any given time will be wearing a blazer which is either too big or too small. The remaining 10% will be in the "sweet spot" where they actually fit. Who those 10% are shifts from month to month! In other words, I wouldn't overthink it. If you are having the issue of overlap in size with the school's chosen blazer supplier, likely a majority of other kids will have the same issue.

If it helps, my 6 year old (in England, so about the start year 2 next month) will be starting the third year with the same blazer. He's just hit the "sweet spot" so by mid year we will be in to slightly too small. I'll move to the next one when its "too-bigness" looks less ridiculous than the current ones "too-smallness". So I anticipate quite a while. FWIW I think fitting in the chest but too short in the body and with too short arms is fine, and probably better than something which swamps.

Primary school blazers are either too big or too small. They just grow too quickly to justify offering blazers in sizes close together (i expect my son's blazer will fit around year 2 - he's just about to start year 1). Very few children in his school wear fitting blazers

I had a blazer at secondary. Df refused to consider it might be too small until the arms were nearly up to my elbows. Big is good. Grin

Could you let down the sleeves in the smaller blazer? They usually have a decent turnup. Only thing is there may be a line if the blazer is well worn.

Buy the next size and let him choose when to move into the bigger one. I don't think a little big or a little short in the arms is a problem though.
