We’re moving to Farnham Common soon, but understand there is no space for my 2 daughter’s at the local state primaries. Can anyone recommend any schools in the surrounding area (state or private) or let me know any to avoid?! Of course it’s the summer holiday now, so I can’t visit anywhere, but insider info would be massively appreciated! Thanks.

I live fairly close to the area. I would look at stoke poges school. Its a good rated school. Fulmer infant is an outstandig village school.

You can find your local schools by using thr link www.192.com/schools/

It doesn’t matter what schools there are, what matters is if they have places!!! Very many do not. The better ones are very unlikely to have spaces. You need to contact Bucks CC School Admissions. They have a list of school vacancies and might be able to make suggestions but you might not even get your DDs into the same school. Phone very quickly for advice. You might have to consider Slough.

Thanks very much for your advice. I should have explained that I’ve spoken to the council & they’ve told me the surrounding state schools are full, so I guess that the advice I’m looking for is regarding private schools - a whole new world to me! Also, Slough is unknown to me, other than driving through - any recommended schools there?!

It’s not an easy area to get to Independent schools from.

You have Dair House very close, but when I looked round I didn’t think it offered much over a state school.

It depends what sort of school you want and on the logistics of your school run ( which direction you need to go for work etc) because the traffic can be really bad in the mornings.

I would first look at exactly where you need the school to be- there is no point reading up on/ visiting Maidenhead schools if you are going into London for example. Then start looking at the options in that area.

When we lived there I planned to send DS to Lambrook and was going to put him on the school bus at Bray. That maybe completely impractical for your logistics though.

Your best options are Caldicott at Farnham Royal for a boy and Maltmans at Gerrards Cross for a girl. I don’t know about schools in Windsor.

I was assuming state when I said Slough.

BubblesBuddy · 09/08/2018 19:59

It’s Maltmans Green School to give it its full name. You could look at Clare’s Court in Maidenhead but that’s a through school and not comparable really.

Harken53rig · 09/08/2018 20:23

OP will have trouble getting her 2 dds into Caldicott, and in fact any child in before Y3 as that is what they start. OP hasn’t mentioned that she’s interested in compulsory boarding in year 7 and 8 as preparation for a full boarding senior school either.

Those are far from the only options OP. It does come down to what you need out of your school run though.

Have you phoned Slough/ Maidenhead to see where has spaces? St Andrews in Taplow has always had a good local rep. Priory is good and has great facilities, but it is really massive.

St Nicholas’ in Taplow, sorry.
