school workbooks in year 6?

At our school, we always get the school workbooks at the end of the year, there was a year they kept them because they were going to have an inspection, but we got them the following year. Anyway my dc just finished year 6 and I've noticed that all of my dc friends took home loads of workbooks, but my dc only had a few. I know dc has a lot more workbooks and I'm wondering why the school is keeping them? I don't think they will have an inspection soon, as last one wasn't that long ago and was really good. Has this happened to anyone, if so what's the reason for schools to keep the workbooks?

Is there going to be a change of teacher in Y6 next year? Sometimes schools save books so that the new teacher has examples of good work to help them with planning.

Our school keeps 2 or 3 full sets of books from each class. They could be doing this for a number of different reasons. We do it to show good progress (child that has sustained better than exected progress throughout the year) but also to keep for assessment purposes; I’ve kept a GD, met and also kept the lowest piece of writing externally moderated as met so that I can compare next year.
I’m also keeping a beautifully presented set of books motivate the next bunch.
We do contact the children at the end of the next year so that they can collect their books if they wish.

Thanks rc22 and Jeffers3 that makes sense, thank you.

And yes it's a new teacher as ours is leaving.
