Any inspired infants teachers fancy helping me with a lesson plan?

Year 2, just started a new unit/topic about extinction, endangered earth etc. The topic covers everything from why did dinosaurs become extinct to what we should do to protect endangered animals. I'm supply teaching this class on Tuesday and have to teach a 1 hour 'unit' lesson. Last week we made a class book after a brainstorm about the disappearance of the dinosaurs which went really well. I'm looking for inspiration - the regular class teacher is back next week and I only have the class for a day so not something which will drag on for weeks. I know I'll come up with something but just wondered if anyone had any brilliant ideas or lessons which went really well.

I'm still trying to make a good impression as I've just gone back to work after a 6 yr break

Oh and sorry, it can't be art as their usual teacher did a great lesson on animal patterns (on fur, skin etc) and why animals with beautiful coats have traditionally been hunted for their fur or skin. She got the kids to look at different animals and paint the pattern of their coats and is going to persue this further so would rather stay away from arty/crafty stuff!

"Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish" is a good book - would fit in well with your dinosaur book and is about a world that becomes v. polluted.

How about D&T - design a poster about a particularly endangered animal - I think there is a "Harry and the Dinosaurs" book that has this theme. I think it's this one www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Dinosaurs-Wild-Ian-Whybrow/dp/0141381108/ref=sr_1_34/202-3497401-2791046?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180277238&sr=8-34
