Help needed on a deregistration letter!

I've written out a deregistration letter to my kids school - bloody printer had packed in
My kids aren't going back into the school on Monday, however, I now wont be able to get the letter to them (with recorded delivery) until Wednesday at the earliest.
Does anyone know if this will be a problem (will it be classed as unauthorised absences until they rec ieve the letter)
OR
Does anyone kn ow if I can just handwrite the bloody thing out (even though it'll look unprofessional)?

Yes you can hand write. Can you take it in on Monday?

Yes, you can handwrite it.

The school will probably backdate the children's leaving date to the last day they actually attended (so it doesn't impact whole school attendance).

Brilliant, thank you! Currently trying to resuscitate printer fingers crossed, but relieved to know I can handwrite it.
I was going to send it with recorded delivery on Monday, all going well. do you know if it would be advisable to phone school Monday morning to inform them that they will be rec eiving a letter?

Why would you need to send it recorded delivery? Can you hand deliver?

And if your kids aren't going back does it matter if they have unauthorised absence?

Need recorded delivery so that the school can 't turn around and say I never sent it/they didn't receive it... Just something I was advised to do through the LEA.

lizs , need to put a signature on it.. I think it's just one of those stupid, nonsensical procedural things. Pain in the arse.

Hand write it and had deliver it and get whoever you give the letter to to sign another bit of paper on which you have written "I acknowledge receipt of OP's letter deregistering her DC" and get them to date it too

Awesome, thank you all for your help. Bloody printers actually worke d! Ive got one copy of the letter, albeit, a little bit fuzzy, and I've sent a copy of it via email to the school's admin following your advice.

If you hand deliver the then take a short film clip on your phone to show them signing for receipt of the letter too. Might as well cover all bases!

Lol bunbunny, I can just imagine the receptionists' expressions if I were to film them. Might do it for the crack

At our school we would absolutely accept an email. Handwritten letter, hand delivered is fine too. Anything that we can print and/or photocopy (so verbal fine but must be followed up in writing of some sort). Doesn’t need to be registered mail and I’m not sure why someone would suggest filming recept...there is no reason for the school to deny receipt of the letter.

The following is procedure in my LA so MAY be different in yours...

If your children are going to another school you should tell the current school. Current school will contact school for confirmation and can remove child from roll as from the school day before first attendance at new school. So, if you are removing children from school A with effect from Monday but the new school is not expecting them until September then they will remain on roll at current school until the last day of this term.

I know you were being tongue in cheek there but remember that a school is private property and therefore you are not allowed to film without prior permission.

Lol thanks for the reply and advice, no, I wouldn't film. I'm glad the school didn't actually allow phones/camaras on site

Does your child have an EHC plan or are there other concerns about their home environment?? It sounds like you are really worried about getting into trouble

I'm a worrier lol. Th e school is a nightmare and has a reputation as such, so I don't want to give them any excuse to create problems.

They've done everything they can to make things difficu lt for me, including refusing to give me the governors contact details when I asked for it. They're just pains. So I'd rather go ott by the book and keep my bases covered.
