School Transfer Request In Year

Hi all. Looking for a bit of advice or ideas really. Our son started year 3 at a new school last September and has really hated the whole time he has been there amid bullying issues and just feeling nobody 'got' him. He asked us to transfer him to a new school which we agreed to because he's a very rational child, very decisive and is fully aware that he will be starting again with making friends etc.

Our problem lies in the fact that all of the other schools in the area are either full or very rural and miles away and he's on a waiting list for our catchment school currently. He attends a school 3 miles away from us and out of catchment at the moment.

We are not sure whether to keep him where he is whilst we wait for him to move up the list at our catchment school with no guarantees or timeframes of a place or take a gamble and move him somewhere slightly further with spaces.

Each day he comes home from his current school a bit down even though he had made friends and is pretty secure in his friendships there.

Do we just sit tight and wait for the catchment school?

Where is he on the waiting list and how many classes in the year? Have you appealed for the catchment school?

Hi. We haven't appealed as yet. There are two classes in the year and he's currently number 2.
