Primary Appeal Date

We've just had our appeal date come through - 19th July!
I know it could be this late but I wasn't expecting it to be.
Does anyone know what happens in terms of teacher / class visits / settling in? Schools in our area break up on the 20th so I'm assuming they will miss out on these if our appeal is successful. :(

Are you on the waiting list as well?
We were also on the waiting list and as it turned out we got our waiting list place before our appeal date so just went to the classroom visits.
That date however is likely to be after the end of term (sorry!).
In that case it is most likely that your DC will go to the September part-day settling sessions if that's what the school does.
If your DC is at a private nursery and will continue to attend through the summer you can always ask if someone can come to nursery to talk to their keyworker.
Not all schools do home visits and they seem to mainly do them in September (as if they do, they don't have the children in school those days, whereas clearly they have the current Reception class in the class at the moment, plus in some cases the teachers will be moving years).

Well, realistically, that will all have to happen in September. The school will know as soon as you do if the appeal is successful, so will know to contact you with details.

Are you going to the sessions for the school you have been allocated?

Thank you for the replies. We have decided not to take her on the transition days for her allocated school as we're worried about the effect this might have on her. She has been allocated a different school to her brother and friends and I think it would be confusing and upsetting for her to attend a different school for one day as she would then have the whole summer holidays to worry about it. If our appeal is unsuccessful and she ends up at the other school then I think it will be better for her to start from September without having to worry about it all beforehand. I'm just gutted for her, she's seeing all her friends having regular visits to her brothers school, her brother is asking why his sister wasn't there. Then they all had their home visits this week and she was upset that the teachers didn't want to visit her. It's been a horrible couple of months I just hoped it would be over sooner than this.

Presumably this is a Reception appeal? Do you know if it comes under the Infant Class Size rules?

If it does, then you must realise that your appeal is, unfortunately, extremely unlikely to be successful (unless a mistake has been made, or the decision is so outrageous in the legal sense so as to be unreasonable).

On that basis, it might be worth taking he to the transition days at the allocated school. You could approach it as seeing what a big school is like, not necessarily emphasising that she might be going there (although perhaps likely, unless you have ace up your sleeve).

We had this exact situation. DS didn't get into his big sister's school, appeal was on the last Thursday of term. We took ds to all the transition and settling sessions at his allocated school as we knew we were extremely unlikely to win. And we had a v strong case. Sadly, nobody has won an ics case in our county for years and years. We had to sell the allocated school to ds as a good thing and we never let him see our anxiety.

I'm hoping we have a good shot as it's not ICS and we have a letter from the school from when my son started last year that states all siblings are kept together. I feel we have a chance which is why I'm reluctant to unsettle her with the settling in days at another school.
Until allocation day we did not think for a moment that she wouldn't be placed there, she believes that's where she's going. Obviously since allocations we haven't mentioned school at all just in case but she talks about it a lot. :(

Do you think there was a mistake in application of admissions criteria (you mention sibling link) or did you miss out in tiebreaker- distance?

A happy update.
We were granted our appeal.
unfortunately it looks like we wont get a teachers visit or settling in day which is upsetting.

Oh that is good news.
You don't need a teacher visit, we don't have them at all.

Does the school have a holiday club? Perhaps she could do a few days there? I know it's not the same thing but worth considering all the same?
