School Absence

Got a letter from child's primary school requesting I attend a meeting about attendance and lateness. I'm super peeved, as the time off has been directly due to illness and an operation to remove tonsils. The school have always been kept informed and are aware of a reason for absence. Lateness??!!! Never been late.
My point is will this affect child's acceptance to secondary schools?
Should I defend my point that this is arbitrary, as my child's attainment level is high and I am assured by teacher that there are no problems.
Would be very interested to hear about other peoples experience.

What is the attendance?

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it if there are genuine reasons. It won't have any affect on acceptance to state secondaries. It's a standard letter that schools send when attendance drops below a certain level - if there are reasons for it, I wouldn't worry.

It is a standard letter when your child's attendance drops below a certain level.
The school are obliged to show they are following it up. Really not worth getting peeved about.

Standard letter which requires a standard response.

X has been absent due to illness and tonsil removal. While I appreciate that his attendance has been poor it would obviously be unacceptable to send an ill child to school. X's teacher has assured me that his/her attainment is still good so I do not feel that a meeting would benefit X.
