When to start school

Good afternoon to all!

Me and my partner are having a bit of confusion as to when our son is supposed to start reception.

Son was born in December 2015 so when is he due to start reception/primary school? We want him to attend from reception.

I am thinking it would be September 2020? Because he will be 4 but turning 5 just 3 months after, or are they already supposed to be 5 on their first day, which would make it 2021?

Also how much time in advance do you make an application?

Any help would be appreciated.

September 20, before he's 5. My DD was born in October 99 and started school in September 04.

You were right, September after turning 4.

If you're in England then you're right, Sept 2020. If you're elsewhere, say where you are and I'm sure someone will be able to tell you.
