Hi everyone! Smile
So my daughter is struggling with calculating sums with larger numbers and general mental maths. I've been researching on getting some tuition for her and have actually come across anzan/Japanese maths.
It looks quite interesting and seems to be a tried and tested method but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it out for their children? Does it work/provide results? Does anyone recommend good classes to join anywhere in the Greater London area?

Is it to do with Soroban(Japanese abacus)?
I 've done it as a child, learn to use abacus first, then Anzan, use the mental image of abacus to do the calculation. And yes, it did work for me, I was able to do multi-digit calculation mentally for all four operations very quickly back then, but forgot it all now.

I don't know it has evolved since I was a child, but it wasn't for everyone.

So I actually enrolled my little boy in a Japanese maths class. They use the abacus and he's been going to the class for 2 months now. I definitely see some progress because like your daughter, he was really struggling with bigger sums and his mental maths wasn't great. He seems more confident with his math sums now and he can calculate mentally too! Smile It's been pretty good and i'm happy with his progress.

So the class I enrolled him into is called 'Arithmetic Intelligence' and it's in the London area so perhaps it would be perfect for you? Their twitter handle is @arithmeticint1 if you want to check them out Smile
