Late primary application after changing mind about school

DS2 was accepted into our first choice of school (his brother goes there) but since the application process the school has been placed into special measures. To cut a long story short, we have decided to send DS2 to a different school. We have looked around new school, loved it and been told he can have the last place they had available. Since then we have officially applied (two weeks again) and just waiting to hear as to whether he actually has a place there. Any idea how long we could be waiting to hear? I hate this limbo and want to prepare DS2 for whichever school he will end up at!

We did this last year (think it might have been just after the final half term we did it when the alarm bells about the school became blaring sirens and the relationship had completely broken down already had one child there ). The fresh into reception place was confirmed before the schools broke up - I think in about under a week (but obviously appeals and stuff were over and sorted by then so nothing was delaying admissions in terms of processing that kind of stuff), the transfer for my older child went through during the first week of the school holidays.
