How will I get DS SATS results?

Hi,

My DS's school hasn't told us if or how we will find out what results they got in their SATS. Does anyone know, please?

I know it isn't really a big deal, but DS asked me if I would get a letter etc and I don't know.

School will know the results on Tuesday 10th July. They have to inform you in writing by the end of term. Some schools do it on the day, some schools wait until the end of year report (mean!)

Some schools tell the children first in school.
Some schools send letters home with the children.
I presume some may even post home.

Ours sent letter home with the DC but addressed to parents, on a Friday, so we had all weekend for excitement to die down before going back in. I thought this was worked well.

Thank you! Looks like I will have to ask then, DS feels he has done very well and is excited already to get his results! This wait until mid-July is going to eat him up, he is already bouncing off the walls.

Are we talking Y2 or Y6?

Feenie · 16/05/2018 20:52

Y6. Y2 tests aren’t reported - unless schools give them a status they don’t have. Only teacher assessment.

Gagastwin · 16/05/2018 21:15

Y6!

fennie I’m not sure if that remains the case for Y2 sats. When my dis took them 3 years ago they got one of the old levels (e.g 2b, 2c). My dd is doing them now and the school ran an information session saying they are now nationally standardised and they’ll get a score - 100 being as expected. I guess some schools may not share scores with parents, but I certainly got the impression we would be told dd’s score.

We get ours with the school reports. About 2 weeks before term ends, I think

Feenie · 16/05/2018 21:46

As I said, unfortunately some schools give the tests a status they just don't have. The teacher assessment comes from the teacher assessment framework statements and the tests are set to be scrapped in favour of Reception Baseline testing.

The only result reported to the LEA and subsequently the Dfe is the teacher assessment. That's the only statutory requirement. If a school chooses to report them to parents, it's simply that, a choice. The test result goes no further.

Feenie · 16/05/2018 21:48

Sorry - to be clear, it's obviously a requirement to report the TA to parents - but not the test results.

Overrunwithlego · 16/05/2018 21:56

Thanks fennie. Having reviewed the slides it’s not actually clear if the score will be shared - it does only say they will be used to inform the teacher assessment, so perhaps that is just background context. I certainly don’t think the school is one to over play them - although I’m aware that my dd has maths papers this week, she doesn’t seem to be aware they are ‘tests’ which is good.

Often schools report the TA standards. They should give parents test scores if requested but as said above these are fairly meaningless really.

Tests count as an additional piece of evidence that a child is working at a particular standard. They’re used alongside class work.

As an LA moderator, I’m far more interested in the child’s class work than their test score when agreeing TA judgement.

Sorry I mean schools always report Teacher Assessment judgement for end of KS1. Not often!!
