Mixed school or boys and girls better?

I have a boy and a girl.

I have heard it is better to put boys in a boys only school and girls in a mix school.

What are your thoughts and reasons?

My son would be pretty sunk in a single sex school as he much prefers playing with the girls and his closest friend is female.

Boys do better in mixed. Girls do better in a girls school.

If you have the choice id do it that way

I assume when you say do better, you mean academically. One problem is, stating that children do better In one situation or another is purely based on averages. Some girls would do better in a mixed environment, for instance. I went to a girls secondary after a mixed primary and absolutely hated it, as I was a tomboy. I’m sure that affected my academic attainment too as I was miserable.

But the other issue relates to all round social development. If you want to raise children that are comfortable with the opposite sex, surely mixed education is better?

Research points to the diamond structure being “the best” but it’s very generalised. That’s co-ed to 11, single sex from 11-16 and then back to co-ed for 16-18.

It won’t work for every child, in the same way that some schools are a better fit for a child (even before you take into account the single sex / co-ed factor).

The differences aren’t massive either. The biggest difference is more girls take STEM subjects and get better results at 16 in a single sex environment.

Consider it as a factor but don’t base your whole decision on it.
