I have a question about the pros/cons of applying for a place for only the last 3 weeks of the summer term.
I'm a returning Crown Servant moving back in the summer. My DD has got a place at a school for September (reception entry) and I have just completed the in year application form for my DS who is currently in y4. However, before we send it off, DH and I are currently vacillating a bit about whether to just keep them off for what will end up being an extra month of holiday.
Options are:
- send off the form with the pre-summer start date, maybe get a place at a different school and spend the summer on a waiting list for DS to go to the school DD will start at. I'm assuming I should make use of all three slots on the form too.
- send off the form with a Sept start date (but we have to give our date of return to the UK which is well within the summer term and then I'm thinking that looks like failing to send your child to school... what does the Education Act say about that?) and still maybe not get a place at the same school as DD for Sept.
- some other idea I haven't thought about...
The school is in England, by the way, and the area is not undersubscribed so the likelihood of different schools is relatively high.
