Year 3 spelling angst

My DD had a slow start with reading and literacy due to glue ear and being a late August birthday. She’s worked really had and is now a free reader but her spelling is atrocious. She seems to have forgotten a lot of the phonics rules and is going backwards. She will spell the same word in different ways in the same body of writing, even if she had just seen it/been coached to spell correctly. She is conscientious and hard working and this issue is now leading to tears and massive upset.

Any advice? I don’t want to dent her fragile confidence and turn this into a battleground. She loves maths and is a bright enough child. She wants to try the 11 plus, very selective here. We want to give her a fighting chance.

This may be a bit advanced for her but someone sent me this link

thatspellingthing.com/

(But she may still be "emergent").
