just got a letter from ds's primary school, saying they make one order per year for uniforms, so our order has to be in by end of May.
fair enough.
but, ds isn't starting school until January 08. he is 4, but currently wears size 2y clothes. we're really hoping he has a growth spurt before school, but have no idea what size to order (the order form only starts at size 4y anyway!?)

Also - how many shirts and jumpers is it advisable to have? he's not an 'over' mucky kid.

Can you get away with cheap asda/tesco polo shirts? and cheaper pants?

I would get 2 school sweatshirts and PE t-shirt and 1-2 polo shirts then get spares from a cheap range (IE without logo)

TBH I would be a bit p-off at having to fork out now instead of Dec/Jan anyway

How ridiculous! We had to order in the July before starting in September, and the school office offered to exchange anything that had been outgrown in the meantime, as long as it was still clean. I would hope that your school has some similar arrangement!

Anyway, DD1 is in Reception. She is small for her age and very skinny, and is wearing the smallest size sweatshirts and polo shirts. They are 24" chest and fit her fine. Her skirts are High Street age 4-5, but I had to shop around to get ones that fitted.

She has two sweatshirts and four polo shirts. I usually have to wash at least one sweatshirt during the week, but that's partly because I can't be bothered to nag her to change when she gets home.

Surely working on a size a year the 4y size will be huge so as that is the smallest size I would go for that.
Or do the school have sample sweater you can see or maybe a friend, just to get an idea of the sizes.
I would say 2 sweater if he's not a mucky child one on and one in the wash. Or in dd case one left at school and one for the next day.

glad i asked now; never thought about getting plain shirts without logo - the letter didn't include what the uniform policy actually is (not v helpful). also i had thought to get 5 shirts, 1 per day. but if others manage with fewer i'm sure we will.

Mine have a polo shirt a day and currently 4 sweatshirts each, but think I may up this to 1 a day. It's the nose wiping on the sleeves that makes ours dirty (and I'm failing to beat this out of ds2). But I did decide when ds1 started school I only wanted to wash uniform once a week and having 3 boys knew that less washing would mean more stuff to hand down to ds3.
