New name as I forgot my old login!!!

The small person is in Reception and I'm trying to get my head around Read Write Inc... can anyone explain the read colour levels?

She seems to be progressing well at school and I'd like to get some books for home use.

I've asked the school but they didn't have a framework to hand to let me have.

As a teacher I could give you lots of information on how RWI works but instead I will ask on behalf of her teacher please don't get scheme books to read at home. For a start they are hugely expensive, as they are not designed to be brought for just one child. Secondly it's very frustrating when the children get to that book in class and proclaims I read this at home.

If she is progressing well then that's great just continue to share books she brings home and let her enjoy stories, comics and other texts at home.

sorry should have been more clear - I want to get some books that are of a comparable level - not necessarily the RWI books themselves.

Then look here for real books that go with band colour www.badgerlearning.co.uk/ecommerce/primary-resources/library-reading-boxes/banded-reading-boxes/

Or go on bookpeople and get songbirds collection.

Thanks for clarifying, there's a document by the temple learning academy called the RWI correlation document which can be found on google which might be of use. This shows how RWI books and ditties match against other book bands and schemes.

Although I still maintain the best way would be sharing the book she brought home and then allowing her to access general stories and comics. Get her to spot words she can read whilst going about daily life and then let her listen to you read stories.

There are many years ahead in her journey of learning to read and the vast majority of scheme books are pretty bland even if she can read them herself they sadly tend to suck the joy out of reading.

Thank you @Tomorrowillbeachicken - that's what I was after.
