Bunking school for one day

Visiting families over Easter holiday, tickets are on the night before last day of school, later tickets cost 360pounds more for family of four. Guilty..

DS 5 and 7 will miss the last day of school. How bad is this..? Shall I tell their teachers beforehand? I am feeling chicken, might just email the office.., and what do I say? I have asked other mums apparently for one day I can just call in sick for them; less paperwork for the teachers, what are your thoughts please..

Tell the truth. If your dc's are off last day of the school, they may have something to bring home. My ds was actually off on the last day of school year due to illness, and TA turned up on the door to bring his stuff!
I really don't think teachers think anything of it even you tell the truth. Many people do.

Tell the truth so you don’t spend their first week back worrying about them telling people

I can’t imagine anyone fining you over one day!

prh47bridge · 16/03/2018 08:58

Agree you should tell the truth. If you try something else the chances are your children will shop you accidentally. Just tell the office that your children will miss the last day of school and why. If their attendance is otherwise good you won't be fined even if it is an unauthorised absence.

Just tell them so if anything they bring home gets sent back earlier. They always break up earlier and usually don't do much school work on that day anyway

BlueChampagne · 16/03/2018 13:18

Tell the truth so the school staff don't worry. Anyone worth their salt will understand.

As a teacher we understand this kind of thing. I have lots of children leave a day early- especially if it is a half day! Just mention it to the school and they should be fine. I personally would like to know so I can give them their homework and their mini Easter egg early 😊

Can you take them in for morning reception (so the school gets their morning attendance mark) and then go ? In which case I'd advise the school that's what you'll be doing

GreenSeededGrape · 17/03/2018 15:14

Dd1 will probably miss first day of y3 unless the school has a couple on insert days which they've had the last few years.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 17/03/2018 15:16

Nah, do it. It's one day.
It won't wreck their chances of an Oxbridge educationGrin
