Newton Prep

Name changing.

Any current parents at Newton Prep who can give me their thoughts on the school? We met the head and feel the pastoral care at the school will be great. However, we also need an academically challenging school that stretches our child (Year 5 entry). The leavers results are quite varied. To what extent are the boys being tutored or can we credit some of the results (to King's, Eton, Harrow) to the teaching at the school?

My DD was at Newton Prep and I felt the boys results were certainly way more impressive than the girls. I think this is largely because the school doesn't over-encourage 11+ for the girls and at 13, boarding schools are really the only option for them. For boys, this is obviously different. The pre-test preparations for the boys is something you will have to look into but I did feel that the boys had a better outcome than the girls.

The relations with senior schools are extremely strong and the schools seem to respect Newton very much so that is definitely an advantage.

My DD did end up at an excellent all-girls independent school at 11+ but we tutored...I felt we had to.

I meant to add that Newton was extremely supportive of all my DD's applications and I know they spoke personally to various admissions heads and that really helped.

Thank you that is helpful to know. It does seem though that tutoring is the norm at all london preps! Any Newton Prep parents with boys who can add to this?

Both DS and DD got multiple places at their academic choices without tutoring. Mrs Fleming and Miss Hales are at the top of their game when it comes to secondary transfer.
They both loved their time at Newton - particularly the sport and music.
