To encourage pencil grip.

Sorry I know there are probably lots of threads but I have a 7 yr old whos writing is still very messy who holds her pens funny Grin

These ones were my ds's first pencils. It's slightly chunky triangle shape and has soft lead, so easy to write without too much effort. He had great pencil grip from the start.

But I'm not sure it's appropriate for 7 year olds, since soft lead can smudge.
