Please help! Possible move

I've registered my DD (4) at a school near my current house. Form is in, everything's in hand etc etc. I know they start in August, however my OH and I are looking to buy a house (I'm first time buyer, he's not) hopefully BEFORE August as that is when I go back to college to study.

My worry is, if we find the perfect house in a completely different area, what is the protocol for this? Can I 'transfer' a registration? I would hate to move and then find out I couldn't get her in a different school and have to pay for nursery for another year as that wouldn't be possible.

Thanks in advance to anyone with advice!

Hi Pip are you based in UK and if so which part as different countries have different approaches? Also are you talking about making an application for state primary (via council forms) or local private school?

I'm in Scotland, yes I've filled in the application form and handed it in to our local state school, no private schools or anything. It would be another state school she would be going to if and when we moved!

Ah, I am sorry but I don't have much insight into the Scottish system - designated schools? Are you likely to move very far away or under same LA but possibly into another designated school area? If the latter I think the best bet would be to ring the admissions team and ask for genetic advice. I did look up Edinburgh policy for background and they seem (although I may be misinterpreting it) to be retaining a place at each school for people moving into the area but it wasn't immediately clear how that worked in practice (and I may have misread) hopefully someone with some actual knowledge will be along shortly but good luck!
